Handwritten before our first date, given to Nate on November 25, 2025, and opened after we said “I love you” on March 15, 2026.
My baby,
If you’re reading this, hopefully it’s because we’ve finally gifted each other those three words. Hopefully, the timing was beautiful, and I made you feel all the warmth, all the butterflies, and all the tingles.
June 18th, 2024, I wrote a note for C in our shared folder:
“Do you ever have moments where you feel like you can see the bigger picture? Like there will be times, randomly, when I realize I might be in the midst of a prayer getting answered. But u can’t say it out loud yet because you don’t want to jinx it, but u get this feeling that washes over you that feels like, ‘maybe it really is all playing out the way it’s supposed to right now.’ I’ve been feeling it more often now. Like I’m being handed this opportunity or pushed in a direction that will allow me to receive or work for what I want and what I’ve been asking for. And for me, moments like these always feel a lot more stronger than just being ‘handed’ something, because for some reason I’ll correlate that with ‘luck’ and not God. But when it feels like a plan—when I can see how something in my life right now can lead to my goals being accomplished—then I feel so much closer to Him.”
This is an excerpt from my journal entry I wrote for myself earlier today:
“For a while now, I’ve been feeling like I’m entering an answered prayer. I couldn’t give an exact reason, as I couldn’t exactly pinpoint what has changed. I just know I had been feeling different. But now I feel as if the ‘tangible’ things are starting to appear, as tangible as love and safety can be.
I think the timing is beautiful. Mending my relationship with God was on my list of goals this year, and I was starting to feel like I wasn’t going to make any progress. It’s funny how He works behind the scenes. How He can creep up on you and make you realize He was holding you up the whole entire time. Every single time I wondered how I was still standing, it was Him.”
I’m sure by now I’ve told you just under a billion times how beautiful your heart and your soul are. I think God puts a piece of Himself in all of His creations, but I think He poured a little bit extra when creating you.
My relationship with God has not been a smooth path. Hopefully, by now, it is much stronger. I often turn to Him only at my weakest points, and it’s one of my biggest sources of guilt. One of my biggest insecurities and deepest flaws: my underappreciation of the biggest entity.
I’m not sure how you’ll receive this yet, which is why I want to wait till we have a little bit more time together. During our two nights and three days, I felt like I was entering my testimony. You make me want to mend my relationship with God. I haven’t felt this desire in a very long time, and never as honest and raw as this. Never this self-fulfilling and detached from external factors. My relationship with Him has always been motivated and instilled by fear or validation from my mother. My love for Him has never felt genuine. That weighed on me heavily. My relationship with Him felt very parallel to my relationship with my parents. When I started distancing myself from my parents, I found myself distancing myself from Him.
But that night, I felt like I was face-to-face with God and He was handing me what was worth every tear, every lost breath, every scar, every bruise, and every fall.
I’ve made it a point to never ask for anything from God. I never felt like I was deserving. Like I never put in the work, therefore I had no right to ask Him for anything. It would be me taking advantage, and I would never want to treat anyone that way, let alone Him. But at my lowest, I would always pray for two things: safety and love. I’ve never wanted anything else. I wanted those two feelings, and I would beg for them, feeling like it was falling on deaf ears. But I was too desperate not to try every single time I hit the ground.
My love, in two nights and three days, you gifted me those two blessings.
There’s a song, “Prayed For You” by Matt Stell, that came out when I was still in high school. I remember every single time it would come on the radio, the world felt like it stopped spinning for three whole minutes.
Baby, I think I’ve spent my whole life praying for you. I think you are my walking testimony of “trust in God.” You are every affirmation, every quote, telling me to trust the process. Telling me that everything will work out in the end. You are every single time my mother would tell me, “God has a plan.”
Everything feels so surreal because my faith has become so minuscule. But in two nights and three days, you found a way to restore it. I’ve told you before, and I think I’ll spend my whole life saying it; you are living proof a God exists. Your existence, your creation, is beyond comprehension. It was ever so carefully crafted. And the selfish part of me can’t help but believe that God made you with me in mind. He curated your heart to fit perfectly against mine. Every inch. Every crevice. Nothing unable to mold against me.
I spent years chasing this sense of safety, leaning on the wrong people, digging myself into holes I struggled to get out of. I grew accustomed to chasing a false sense of it, believing I’d never be able to find the real thing. I’ve caused myself pain and slowly chipped pieces of my own heart throughout the process. But I would do it all again if it means it leads to you in every single lifetime.
Nathan, I love you.
I think my heart was created to love you. I think experiencing you was God’s plan for me. I think at the beginning of this year, I made the goal to come face-to-face with God, and He handed me you. You are all my prayers answered; my greatest blessing. And that night you took care of me, I felt that this was something bigger than me and you.
I can never thank you enough for what you’ve brought to my life. I’ve struggled my whole life opening up. I would approach every single friendship and relationship with the mentality that I would have to overcome the obstacle of being closed off, and most likely fail. But my love, there was no fight, no struggle with you. From the start, I felt safe enough to express every single emotion I held. It feels like the freedom I’ve always dreamed of. I feel like I met myself fully for the first time that weekend. As if not only would I hold myself back with other people, but I would hold parts of me from myself, too. God introduced me to you, and you introduced me to me. You gave me the environment I needed to thrive. The environment that makes me feel as if I’ve maxed out my potential. I feel like I never knew who I was until I met you. Like I never felt safe enough to fully display myself to this world.
But you changed that for me. You gave me the safety and love to bring down all of my walls. I will spend the rest of my life making sure I repay you for that.
You are it for me. You are my reason to love. I’ll spend the rest of my life and every life after this one loving you. Whether it’s right beside you or, God forbid, from afar. For as long as you’ll let me, I’ll choose to hand you my heart in every single lifetime.
I love you endlessly, my baby.
xo,
Eliana.
